Central Florida Affiliate

The Susan G. Komen Central Florida Affiliate was established in 1999 to carry out the Foundation’s mission statement: To eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment.
The Central Florida Affiliate serves the nine counties of Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Sumter, and Volusia. The Affiliate serves as an “umbrella” for all of the special fund-raising events within this area such as:
- The Komen Central Florida Race for the Cure®
- BMW - The Ultimate Drive®
- Cook for a Cure®
- Wacoal Fit for a Cure®.
Up to 75% of the net proceeds raised by this Affiliate stays within the local area to fund outreach programs and initiatives that address the specific unmet breast health needs within the nine county service area. These projects are selected based on a needs assessment performed by the Affiliate.
The Affiliate consists of a Board of Directors and various Committees that support the Foundation’s mission statement. Committees are comprised of Volunteers who are the lifeblood of this organization.
- The Education Committee is available to provide breast health information to large and small groups.
- The Grant Committee oversees the application, review, and distribution of grant monies raised by the Race for the Cure® and other Special Events.
- The Special Events and Fund-raising Committees participate in a wide variety of activities to support our ability to fund grants.
- The Race for the Cure® Committee organizes the Foundation’s signature 5K run/fitness walk.
- The Volunteer Committee works to help staff both educational and fund-raising type events.
